Matrei in Ost Tirol
The Grossglockner ski area has fifteen new lifts (opened in 2008) including East Tirol's first charilift with heated seats! There are 110km of groomed slopes with 90% of the area covered by artificial snow making machines. There is an excellent beginners area with a magic carpet at the upper station of the cable car and children under 6 ski for free.
The ski area links the 2 resorts of Kals and Matrei and there are 3 pistes which run all the way down to the valley. The resort is also part of the Ski Hit pass which combines 8 ski areas to give you access to 315km of pistes and 67 lifts. For more information on the Ski Hit pass see Doing More.
