Another Downhill Race in France
The downhill recently cancelled at Val Gardena, Italy, has officially been re-scheduled by FIS (International Ski Federation) to Chamonix for February 3rd.
It's a great news for the French Ski Federation which has lost five races in December due to difficult weather and snow conditions at Val d'Isère and Courchevel.
It's also important for Chamonix, one of the most 'historical' organizers of international ski races, to host another men downhill race as the French resort has not been included in the coming Alpine World Cup calendars.
The second downhill is planned on the 'Verte des Houches' on Feb. 3rd. The original downhill will take place on Sat. 4th and the Super-combined event on Sunday 5th.
Chamonix, a member of the exclusive 'Arlberg-Kandahar' tour since the early 1950s, has hosted the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924 and the 1937/1962 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships.
In January 2011, Switzerland's Didier Cuche won his second back-to-back downhill race at Chamonix a week after his fourth triumph at Kitzbühel. The Super-combined was dominated by Croatia's Ivica Kostelic who enjoyed his seven victory within a month!
