The world's biggest Gratin Dauphinois

On Friday 29th of January, Alpe D'Huez attempted to get into the Guinness Book of records by making the biggest Gratin Dauphinois in the world. They managed to get 3 tonnes of potatoes, 300 litres of cream and 5 kilograms of garlic to make this record happen.

The school children of Alpe D'Huez helped with the peeling and chopping of the potatoes, and the actual cooking of the potato dish started at 12.30 in a huge 20m2 pan which SATA made to help with the event. Big wooden paddles were used to help move the potatoes and cream around in the pan showing the scale of this project. The cooking went on all afternoon.

At 6.30 the association of Huiz'Art performed songs, the crowds grew and when 3 famous actors from the French TV programme "Plus Belle La Vie", the atmosphere grew even more.

At 7.30 the cooking was complete and it was announced that Alpe D'Huez had broken the World Record for making the biggest Gratin Dauphinois in the world. The dish was then sold off at 2 Euros per portion to help raise money for the charity "ELA" for which the patron of this association is Zinedine Zidane.

Overall the event attracted lots of people, created a brilliant atmosphere with the snow coming down, managed to raise a good sum of money for the ELA and get Alpe D'Huez into The Guinness Book of Records
