Pitztal Glacier will be the first European ski area open for Winter 10-11
When asked which ski area will be the first to open for Winter 2010-11 www.skiinfo.co.uk has suggested that Pitztal could well be the first....
A possible claimant is the Pitztal glacier in Austria, which operates the country's highest lifts and has had its snowmaking system boosted recently by the installation of one of only two 'all weather' snowmaking systems imported from Israel that can make snow in plus temperatures. This year Pitztal is aiming to open on Wednesday, September 15th.
Some ski areas, such as Zermatt in Switzerland, stay open all year round, making it hard to define when one season ends and another begins ,but the Pitztal glacier closed in May earlier this year after 8 months and will soon be re-opening.
