Skiing in Spain
The Spanish Pyrenees are not always the first place you might think of for a ski holiday, but after 2 days here I can thoroughly recommend it.
The resort has 137km of pistes spread across 4 valleys. Currently about half of the domain is open (which has given us plenty to ski on for now). The hotels are of a high standard - especially the one I am staying in - The 4 star Aragon Hills Hotel & Spa.
Everything about this trip has gone well so far - I flew into Zaragoza which is about 2 hours away and has Ryan Air flights, but from 27th December there is a weekly charter flight into Huesca which is even closer.
The food has been superb (washed down with some excellent Spanish wines) and although I haven't experienced it, the spa area looks very inviting. It's definitely somewhere I would consider for my own ski holiday and I think it would be an excellent place for a family ski holiday. Prices are very reasonable and there is a good choice of mountain restaurants and bars - whether you want to try a traditional Spanish paella for lunch or would rather have pasta, pizza or a burger and chips - there's something for everyone.
Highlights of the trip so far:
- skiing the red runs off the side of the Huegas lift (a button lift - but worth it for the good snow conditions).
- Hot wine in the Iglu bar on the slopes.
- the deliciously thick hot chocolate served in the Chocolateria at the bottom of the slopes.
- the meal on the first night in the Buddah Hills a la carte restaurant in the Aragon Hills hotel.

The Iglu bar.
