Matthews Friends
Matthew's Friends has come a long way since it was first set up in 2004. Like many people until recently I believed that epilepsy could be controlled by drugs, however I now know this is not always the case and that sometimes drugs can actually make the condition worse. Matthews Friends charity was set up to raise awareness of the Ketogenic Diet which can replace or reduce drugs and in a third of cases children on the diet can become seizure free and go on to lead normal lives.
They are based not far from our offices - at the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy- and from there the charity supports parents trying to obtain the treatment for their children, raises funding to help enrol children onto the diet and raises awareness of the diet.
They run a helpine and website as well as organising national and international conferences. There have an online forum and fund a Ketogenic research dietician at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
For more information on their work or to donate you can go to their website - www.matthewsfriends.org
You can also click here to read more about Matthew who is the boy behind the charity.
Here at Zenith we will be running various fund raising activities over the year to try and raise as much as possible for this charity. Our first event will be to run a competition at their Halloween Party night on Saturday 29th October. You can contact us for more information on 0203 137 7678
