Ski Holidays in Alpe D'Huez
Known amongst the locals as the Ile du Soleil, it's obvious what attracts skiers and boarders to the resorts of the Southern Alps. An excellent snow record and many sunny days make for a very pleasant mountain experience (the French weather bureau has recorded an average of 300 days of sunshine per year in Alpe D'Huez).
Skiing & Boarding in Alpe D'Huez
The slopes include 2 snow parks (one for beginners and one for experts), 2 beginner areas, 2 ski slopes approved by the International Ski federation for international ski competitions, an ice cave, 50km of cross country trails and 35km of hiking trails. There is night skiing twice a week on the Signal slope and there is the opportunity to ski your First 8000m - 4 runs each with a vertical drop of 2000m (See Doing More activities)
Doing More in Alpe D'Huez
There are plenty of activities for non skiers too - the facilities at the Palais des Sports include an indoor pool, gym, climbing wall, adventure trail and exercise classes. There's also an outdoor pool and an ice rink in the resort. The winter walking pass gives access to over 30km of footpaths using the cable cars to explore the area. Le Spa has a sauna, hot tub, hammam, beauty treatments and massages for anyone wanting to relax and there are plenty of shops for anyone wanting to indulge in some retail therapy. There is free wifi in lots of the resort bars (with purchase). The Ski + pass includes access to the outdoor pool, ice rink, and night skiing amongst other things and it is also possible to pay a premium to have access to the Palais de sports (42€ for adults for 4 - 7 days and 32€ for children). Otherwise the pass give 50% discount in the Palais.

Alpe d'Huez was wonderful and 2011's EGSW was the best one yet, and with such a welcome from the resort and great feedback from our guests we can confirm that Europe's largest, loudest, most fabulous gay and lesbian winter sports event, the European Gay Ski Week will be returning to Alpe d'Huez and in 2012

14th Edition. This event brings together children from 4 to 11 years from all the Oisans region for one day of alpine competition on the slalom course.
