Getting to Ax les Thermes by train
The resort of Ax Les Thermes
The word Ax comes from the latin “Aquae” meaning water and les Thermes are the hottest thermal waters in the Pyrenees springing out of the ground at a temperature of 78 degrees. The natural sulphur and sodium in the water results in a thermal spa which has been used since before the 13th century to treat rheumatism and various respiratory problems. For a good view of this ancient city you can climb up to the statue on the Rock of the Blessed Virgin which overlooks the resort.
Most of the accommodation is down in Ax where we feature a range of hotels and apartments . There are bars, restaurants, a supermarket, shops, railways station, banks, chemist, post office, casino, tourist office and of course the thermal baths. Until recently Le Teich (Open March to November) were the thermal baths used by visitors to the resort . The residence Grand Tetras also houses Le Modele which is available to residents (see Grand Tetras for more information)
A new complex – Les Bains de Couloubret – opened a few years and is a popular place to go after skiing. There is a large thermal pool , 2 outdoor pools, sauna, hammam, Jacuzzis, cold plunge pool, warmer pools with waterjets – in short plenty to relax you after a hard day on the slopes. See Doingmore for more information/prices.
The resort is ideal for families, groups of friends or couples looking for a relaxing holiday. There is not a lot of nightlife, but there are bars to go to for a drink in the evening. There is one night club in resort.
