Summer Holidays in Chamonix
Mountaineers from all over the world descend on Chamonix during the summer months to take part in a huge range of activities.
Whether you wish to try your hand at one activity like rock climbing, white water rafting, mountain biking, horse riding or paragliding, or if you just want to take a stroll and enjoy the wonderful scenery there really is something for everyone.
The town itself offers an excellent selection of shops, restaurants and boutiques and has excellent nightlife thanks to the numerous pubs and nightclubs. Chamonix also plays host to a number of events during the summer including a marathon around Mont Blanc in June and the world rock climbing championships in July.
A Mont Blanc Unlimited lift pass is available which gives access to the numerous ski lifts and mountain trains, providing access to hundreds of kilometres of walks and mountain bike trails and some majestic views.
The Aiguille du Midi lift – the world’s highest vertical ascent cable car – is well worth a visit. Not only are the views from the summit (3,842m) spectacular, you’ll also get a great view of the famous Mont Blanc peak.
The town has a large number of supermarkets, café’s and banks, with internet access available from the local tourist office. The sports centre has an excellent swimming pool, squash courts and fitness room, and there are a huge number of other activities to explore.
The majority of ski lifts will be open for the summer months, although during low-season some will be closed.
