What We Like

Village resort atmosphere with reasonably priced accomodation and facilities within the Chamonix valley.

What We Would Change

An extended night bus facility in order to experience Chamonix 'apres ski'.

As you ascend into the Chamonix valley, the first ski area covered on the excellent ‘Chamonix Unlimited ‘ lift pass that you pass is the pretty traditional village of Les Houches.

There are bars, restaurants and convienience shops throughout Les Houches. There are also a couple of pharmacies and banks and cash machines. If you can't find what you need here though, you are sure to find it in Chamonix.

Ski Holidays in Les Houches

The ski area of Les Houches starts at 1000m and goes up to 1900m. There are 55km of pistes some of which are used for the World cup Alpin ski circuit and the World Cup telemark circuit. Mainly suited to either families, self drive guests & beginners (4 green slopes, 6 blue slopes, 12 red slopes & 2 black slopes, including the famous 'Kandahar le Vert' piste) Les Houches is a great introduction to the skiing in the area, however, when the local area has been discovered, continue using your 'Unlimited' lift pass' within Chamonix on either the sunny panoramic slopes of Fleger & Brevent, the tree lined skiing in La Tour or the famous high altitude moguls, powder & pistes of the Grande Monte area.

If staying local is your aim, then a more affordable local Les Houches pass is also available (see ski packs). However, with the many snow shoe walking (12 trails open in the valley, snow conditions permitting) & cross country skiing trails, (a loop in the village & at altitude locally)maybe the more flexible 4days in 6 pass would be of more interest for you.

Many traditional restaurants & bars are situated in the village itself & if traditional mountain food is what you are looking for within a days skiing, look no further than the restaurants located on the 'CHA' piste or 'MAISON NEUVE' piste.

The village really comes alive each year when the famous 'Kandahar' ski race comes to town, & the piste 'VERT' comes into it's own. For 2013 the dates for this race are TBA (will update soon), so if mixing with the best skiers in the world is your aim, head to town then!
