If you are feeling peckish, you can enjoy waffles and crepes and wash it down with mulled wine - there is generally a magician showing and selling magic tricks. There are many local specialities to taste and buy but there is also a wealth of variety offered from other countries (Canada, Russia, Lithuania) although each christmas the visitors may be a little different.
The Lille Christmas market offers lots of great present ideas - allowing you to get Christmas shopping wrapped up!

Provisional schedule
The markets are open evey day from 24 November until December 30 (not open 25 December) and the times are Sunday to Thursday from 11am until 8pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am until 9pm and late night openings on Saturdays 4,11 and 18th 11am until 10pm. On Thursday 24 and 30th only 11am to 6pm.
The Big Wheel in Grand Place is open everyday from 24 November until the start of January and costs 4€ for adults and 3€ for children (under 1m 40 tall). The top is 50m high giving you a fabulous view of Lille.
On Dec 18th don't miss Father Christmas who will arrive from the Belfry of the Chamber of Commerce in the Palace du Theatre at approx 5pm.
Lille is an excellent city for shopping in general. It has a pedestrianised shopping area as well as larger shopping centres such as Euralille and more than 3900 shops! (not that I counted them)
It is a shoppers paradise with luxury boutiques and designer shops in Old Lille, department stores and many of the usual high street names in the city centre - if you are looking for a bargain you should head to the Wazemmes area.
Opening hours are usually 10am to 7pm on Monday to Saturdays and most will open on Sundays during December.
