Ski Holidays in Madonna di Campiglio

The resort has an excellent snow record due to its enviable position which means that when the weather system is from the south, the clouds deliver snow having carried over the Dolomites and, when travelling from the North, the similar result occurs having passed over the Alps.

Madonna di Campiglio has a modern and efficient lift system and we feature a range of hotels and apartments that give easy access to  a ski area that is of a good size and very well connected. New last winter (W11/12) was a new link to the ski resort of Pinzolo which, as well as providing an extra 30km of skiing area to the network, also gives the Madonna di Campiglio skier access to the refuge in Pinzolo that offers a quite fabulous hot chocolate!

For many years, Madonna has also hosted the 3TRE – the alpine ski world cup race – which has been won by the greats from Alberta Tomba to Bode Miller.

The event takes place at night and is floodlit (would have to be as they race at night!) and the racing slope leads straight to the centre of Madonna di Campiglio.

If your ideal ski resort should also cater for non-skiers and some excellent après – look no further – the centre of Madonna di Campiglio has a delightful and engaging warmth and atmosphere and is, to a large extent, pedestrianised. There are a range of shopping opportunities which you would expect from an Italian high street and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy an aperitivo in one of the fashionable bars.

The Ski area of Madonna di Campiglio

The Campigglio Val Rendena Val Di Sole ski area is the largest in the Trentino region and is situated in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites. The lift system connects Pinzolo in Val Rendena with Madonna di Campiglio and Val di Sole.

For the boarders amongst you, the area boasts 4 snow parks with the one in Madonna being rated in the top 5 snow parks of the Alps

So on 1 ski pass, you will get access to 62 lifts and 93 ski runs – 44 blue, 35 red and 14 black.

Background on Madonna di Campiglio

What more reasons do you need to choose Madonna? In June 2010, the Dolomites were included in the World Heritage List because of their “exceptional beauty and unique landscape, together with their scientific importance from the geological and geomorphological point of view”. Professor Brian Cox could probably explain why that is so important but our view is that – they are beautiful and worth seeing.

For those wanting to know a bit of history:

It was in 1910 when an expedition of British skiers first came to Madonna di Campiglio by sled – they appreciated the beauty of the region and passed on the message and 100 years on – we are still travelling there to see the beauty of the area.

The Ski-lifts Company of Madonna di Campiglio was founded in 1947, with the aim of encouraging skiing and promoting the winter resort: the first ski-lift was built in 1948: It was a chair-lift connecting Madonna di Campiglio to Mount Spinale. During the 1950’s the lakes cable-car and some drag-lifts were installed. Today the lifts network connects more than 150km of ski-runs. The ski area is connected to Folgarida and Marilleva as well as the new link for 11/12 joining up Pinzolo
