8 day Adriatic Kayaking Adventure Tour

This sea kayaking Croatia adventure trip is a mix of sea kayaking, nature and culture.  This activity holiday will give you the chance to fill up your days with sea kayaking while exploring the stunningly beautiful islands of the Sibenik archipelago.  

The trip is designed to be flexible and is aimed at energetic individuals who like to be active and have an adventurous spirit.  Therefore you can expect to paddle about 20km per day but the schedule is very weather dependent.

Your kayaking expedition starts in Skradin on the very edge of the Krka National Park.  The coastal waters of Sibenik contain an archipelago of numerous islands which make marvellous getaways if you're looking for a rustic vacation experience.

  • Day 1 - Arrival to destination – Skradin town

    Upon your arrival into Croatia you will be transferred to Skradin and to your accommodation at the Skradinski Buk Hotel.

    Skradin is a small picturesque town named after the world famous waterfall on the River Krka.  It is the oldest Croatian settlement with the status of town and was once the capital of the Roman Liburnia as well as the most important war harbour for Croatia and Bosnia in the 14th century.

    Apart from its great history, Skradin and its surroundings are places of unique natural beauty.  The breathtaking view over the town from the bridge on the highways towards Split was nominated for the prestigious Golden Flower of Europe award for the best sightseeing point on European highways.  

    Once you have settled into your room you will be met in the hotel reception for a get together dinner and a presentation of the programme.  After which you are free to enjoy an evening walk around the town to find out which is your favourite ice-cream, beer or local wine!

  • Day 2 - Sea kayaking Skradin – Prvic Luka

    Your first day of sea kayaking take you from Skradin through the channel to the open sea towards Sibenik and its archipelago.

    The coastal waters of Sibenik contain an archipelago of numerous islands stretching out over 157sq km.  These little islands make marvellous getaways if you're looking for a rustic holiday experience.

    Your first destination is the Island of Prvic.  In the 15th century it became a noble seaside resort and it was inhabited by priests of the Benedictine and the Franciscan order who built a monastery and later the two churches.

    Over time, the population grew but during the 20th century the population has steadily declined and at the beginning of this century, came down to about two hundred inhabitants.

  • Day 3 - Sea kayaking Prvic Luka to Zlarin

    Zlarin is a small island on the Dalmatian coast near the Croatian town of Sibenik situated in the Zlarin channel.

    It is the only larger settlement and here the inhabitants are mainly fishermen, sea-men, coral divers and spongers.  

    Zlarin's highest point is Klepac at 169 metres above sea level. During sunny days, from this point you can see Mount Velebit and the volcanic island in the Adriatic Sea called Jabuka meaning “Apple”.

    The inner parts of the island are uninhabited and covered with dense forest. Zlarin is one of the few islands in the Adriatic which does not allow access to cars.

  • Day 4 - Sea kayaking Prvic Luka - Kaprije Island

    You will leave Prvic behind and continue your kayaking trip towards Kaprije Island which is located in the central part of the Sibenik archipelago.

    The only village on the island is called Kaprije and is surrounded by hills and lush vegetation.  

    Kaprije was once a sanctuary for the refugees before the Turks.  The church here was built in the 16th-17th century.  

    The island was named after the Mediterranean caper plant whose buds serve as spice for traditional Croatia meals. From its south side Kakan Island has stunning examples of the traditional stone walls called “suhozid”.

  • Day 5 - Sea kayaking Zirje Island - Kaprije

    Zirje Island is the only permanently inhabited offshore island among the islands of Sibenik. It is located in front of the National Park Kornati archipelago.

    The inhabitants here have vineyards, olive-groves and orchards. They are also fishermen. The only larger settlement is Zirje. The highest peak is Kapic at 131 metres above the sea level.

  • Day 6 - Sea kayaking Kaprije to Prvic Luka

    Today you will head back to Prvic Island but you will take the outside coast line.  Here you will be able to enjoy the towns of Prvic Luka and Sepurine where the majority of the inhabitants thrive off their vineyards, olive groves, orchards, vegetable gardens and of course fishing.

  • Day 7 - Sea kayaking Prvic Luka to Skradin

    Today is your last day of sea kayaking and you will head back towards Skradin.  There is an optional visit today to the Krka River National Park, depending on time, with an afternoon walk from Skradin to the 44 metre high Skradinski Buk waterfall.  Here the fantastic karst formations and waterfalls make for a beautiful swimming area.

    The area is well known for being where the second hydro plant in the world was built, just three days after the first hydroelectric power plant on Niagara Falls.

    After walking and sightseeing you can enjoy a leisurely swim and picnic under the great Skradinski Buk waterfall.

  • Day 8 - Departure day

    Depart from Skradin for the airport and flight home.
