  • Day 2: Lecce - La Cutura - Otranto - 13km

After breakfast, there is a private transfer to the Botanical Garden La Cutura. Today's itinerary evokes rituals and legends, myths and pagan cults related to the people who have inhabited and traversed these lands over the years. Magical places such as the Great Boulder of Old and the small and remote Stable dolmens.

You will take a break at Le Constantine - a foundation promoting various social activities ranging from farming to bio dynamic production of handmade rare fabrics.

A further few kilometres of walking will bring you to the sea and to Otranto - the most eastern city of Italy.

  • Day 3 - Otranto - Torre Sant'Emiliano - 12km

After breakfast there is a visit to the small Byzantine Basilica of San Pietro and the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata.

As you leave Otranto you can immerse yourself in the beautiful unspoiled landscapes described by Maria Corti in his masterpiece 'L'Ora di tutti'.

You can admire the stunning lunar landscape offered by the blue lake, commemorate the past in the ruins of the Casole Abbey and you can reach the lighthouse of Palascia - the most easterly tip of Italy.  From here, when the north wind blows hard and the sky clears, the mountains of Albania, only 70km away, are clearly visible.

A night in a farm not too far from Torre Sant'Emiliano.

  • Day 4: Torre Sant'Emiliano - Santa Cesarea Terme - 12km

Today you will leave behind the scenic tower of Sant'Emiliano and today's walk on a gravel road will take you to Porto Badisco.

You will then join the Via Appia Salentina before taking the path following the coastal line.  If the sky is clear enough you will enjoy a beautiful view of the Balkan mountains before reaching Santa Cesarea and it's thermal pools.

  • Day 5: Santa Cesarea Terme - Castro - 9km

After breakfast, you will head further South.  Today's walk is a short one mainly on gravel road or back country trails.  Here the landscape changes constantly throughout the year - green and blooming springs are replaced by hot and dry summers.

Once in Castro Alta you will have time to find out similarities between this village and Otranto.

You will have plenty of time to enjoy the sea and find refreshment in one of the coves not too far away.

  • Day 6: Castro - Tricase - 16km

Today you will walk a short distance along the coast before you decide whether you want to follow a short, challenging and exciting trail on the rocks or an easier path to reach the beautiful cave of Acquaviva.

Whatever your choice, you will enjoy a refreshing bath from this small beach with a picturesque marina set in the rock.

Later in the afternoon, you will reach Andrano which is well known for it's prestigious architectural complex of the Spinola Caracciolo Castle.  Strolling through the narrow streets and ruins of the old town will take you back in time.

  • Day 7: Tricase - Novaglie - Santa Maria di Leuca - 12km

After breakfast this morning there is a short transfer to Marina of Novaglie. From here you will take the Cipolliane trail which involves walking along a stunning cliff overlooking the sea with amazing views over the coastline and rocky cliffs dotted with prickly pear.

After the Ciolo gully you will walk on by the olive trees, Mediterranean plants and flowers to get to the small town of Gagliano del Capo.

The last stretch of country roads will take you to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Leuca.

  • Day 8 - Leuca

At the bottom of the heel where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea, named “finibus terrae” (end of the earth) by the Romans, Santa Maria di Leuca is a beautiful harbour town with a long esplanade and beach. It is part of the Regional Park “Costa Otranto – Santa Maria di Leuca e Bosco di Tricase. It is famous for its 47 metre high lighthouse and the Basilica built to commemorate St Peter’s visit during his travels through Italy.

From the centre of Leuca the sandy beaches become more dramatic stretches of coastline, with rocky cliffs that are home to the numerous grottoes marked with Latin and Greek inscriptions.
