Bohinj
Background on Bohinj
The village by Lake Bohinj is Ribcev Laz and is just 6km away from the larger village of Bohinj Bistrica. Ribcev Laz has a tourist information centre, post office, hotels (Hotel Bohinj is here) and holiday homes. Bohinj Bistrica is the largest village in the valley and this is where the train station is aswell as the Aqua Park and the Parc Eco hotel.
Multi Activities in Bohinj
There are plenty of activities to try as well as beautiful surroundings to relax in and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are over 280km of marked trails for climbing, walking and biking and Bohinj even hosts an annual hiking festival.
Horseriding, paragliding, swimming, boating, canyoning and hydrospeeding are also all possible in the area. Two thirds of Bohinj is within the Triglav national park and the lake is the largest freshwater lake in Slovenia.
Events in Bohinj
There are 2 main festivals held each year in Bohinj - the Wild flower festival and the Hiking Festival. This year the Wildflower festival will be held from 19th May to 2 June. even before the railway line arrived in Bohinj over 100 years ago many people used to travel to the area to see the flora and fauna.
The Hiking Festival is held in September each year (21st to 30th in 2012). There is a long standing tradition of hiking in this area - it was here in 1776 that the forst succesful climb of Mt Triglav, Slovenia's highest mountain was recorded. During this dedicated hiking week there are 2 or 3 guided hikes each day.
