Background
The local area stretches from the Triglav National Park (with Slovenia's highest mountain, Triglav at 2864m), to Vrsic - the highest mountain pass and down to the river banks.
The earliest mention of Bovec dates back to 1174, but there are finds that date back to the Early Iron Age. The area is perhaps better known historically for the terrible losses during the First World War when much of the town was destroyed.
There is plenty to do around Bovec either in the mountains (hiking, biking, horse riding) or on the river where each year new activities seem to appear.
An example itinerary can be seen at Bovec activity but we can tailor a program to suit your group or family requirements.
Choose from rafting, canyoning, kayaking, hydrospeeding and the latest activity river bugging. If you want to see the area from above you can try paragliding and if you want to try a different angle again you can go underground with some caving. See "Doing More" for more information on thse activities and the prices.
The Trenta museum at the entrance to the Triglav national park is also well worth a visit and if you want to learn more about the WW1 battles which took place in the area then you should head down to the excellent museum in Kobarid.
