Background

It is better known for a battle which took place in 1917 during the first World War when the town was known as Caporetta. This was when the Italian army was defeated by the combined forces of the Central Powers. There is an excellent museum in the town that is well worth a visit if you are in the area. It houses a permanent exhibition about World War 1 as well as various travelling exhibitions. Kobarid is also on the route of the Walk of Peace and is a good starting point for visiting some of the First World War outdoor museums - read more about the museums and what you can see

Ernest Hemingway wrote about Kobarid in his book "A Farewell to Arms" and described it as "a little white town with a campanile in a valley" and not much has changed since. It is a great place to experience some of the many activities on offer or to just kick back and relax.

Slovenia is proud of it's cuisine and Kobarid has a few excellent restaurants for you to sample - the Topli Val in the Hotel Hvala and the His Franka are both superb and the also has an excellent reputation.

Activity Holidays in Kobarid

The emerald waters of the Soča river provide the setting for many of the sports - such as rafting and kayaking or you may want to hire a bike and cycle along to just outside Kobarid where you can swim in the Nadiža river.
