Ski Holidays in Sierra Nevada

As well as a fabulous snow record there’s the fantastic sunshine that comes with being so far south (over 300 days sunshine a year). The centre of Pradollano is built mostly around a large square (Plaza Europa) and whilst there are some hotels and apartments down in this area (Hotel Melia, Mont Blanc) there are many more to be found on the way up towards the top end of resort.

Skiing and Boarding in Sierra Nevada

Situated at 2100m and with a ski area up to 3398m there are over 90km of runs suitable for beginners and intermediates. There are 4 black runs, but the majority are red and blue.

 During the day there is a chairlift which runs up and down the resort (Parador ) and there is also a free navette which runs until approx 21h00. This leaves from the main square in front of the Hotel Melia.

The ski shop we recommend is Luis Sanchez sports which is at the bottom of the Parador lift. They are extremely friendly and you can leave your skis and boots there at the end of the day so you can go back to your hotel in your own shoes (usually after a relaxing drink in the main square).

There are lots of different ski schools to choose from – Escuela Internacionale de ski are located near the Al Andaluz gondola lift. Lessons can be booked for either Saturday and Sundays or Monday to Friday. Lesson times are 10 – 13h00, but the meeting point is up the mountain at the area known as Borreguiles  so make sure you leave time to get there. Both the gondola lifts (Al Andalus  and Borreguiles) go to pretty much the same place so you can get either (but the Borreguiles has seats whereas you have to stand in the al Andalus!) They each take about 12 minutes to get to the top and once you come out of the gondola you go up the escalators and out onto the snow. The ski school classes meet over by the beginners are which you will see to your right by the magic carpet lifts.

Doing More in Sierra Nevada

Most people go to Sierra Nevada for the downhill skiing and snowboarding however the resort does offer other actvities. There's a toboggan run, ski bikes, an ice rink, ski chairs (skifox) and a alpine coaster (Russian sleigh). Off the slopes there is a choice of restaurants where you can experience Spanish specialities such as paella and tapas as well as of course tasting some of the spanish wines. The Montebajo Sports club has a modern gym and a heated indoor swimming pool.
