Ski Holidays in Zermatt

Zermatt conjures up images of chocolate box houses, great snow, fantastic scenery and of course the towering Matterhorn looking down on you at all times.  Well, all of the above is pretty much true, however Zermatt has so much more to offer too.

Coming to Zermatt for a winter holiday is unique - if you are expecting a 'ski in/ski out' kind of resort...this place isn't for you.  If you want to experience a 'real' mountain experience though, this is pretty much right up your street.

The resort is car free and upon your arrival at the railway station you will immediately feel that you are somewhere quite special.  Either take one of the 'Electro' taxi's or the electric bus to your accommodation, get settled in, then kick back and get ready to experience a winter holiday like no other.

The resort is high, with the village at 1620m above sea level, so the skiing is even higher.  The 350km of piste skiing is split into 3 main areas, Klein Matterhorn, the Gonergrat and the Sunnegga/Rothorn area.  All areas offer great conditions, with slopes of varying directions and degrees of difficulty, so whatever the conditions, you're sure to find a slope to suit.  The off piste in Zermatt is legendary, however, don't forget you are in a high mountain environment, so you should never venture off piste without a guide.   For a change of scene & if you have strong mountain legs, consider a day out in Cervinia too, lovely, forgiving wide cruise-y runs.

You could stay in Cervinia too - see Ski Resort of Cervina

The Zermatt ski area caters for everyone - if you are a boarder, the board park and half pipe on the Gornergrat area are where you should head for, and if moguls are your preference, head over to the Triftji part of the mountain.

After a hard mornings activity, wherever you are, you can be assured of fantastic mountain food to warm you up.  Zermatt boasts over 20 different mountain restaurants where you can rest your legs and take in some sustenance.  Most restaurants aren't cheap, but do offer amazing options.

Doing more in the Ski resort of Zermatt

Zermatt also offers much to the non-skiers in your party.  There are many winter walking paths available and tickets to the mountain restaurants can be purchased either on a day basis or a weekly unlimited 'pedestrian' pass.  Additionally, many hours can be idled away walking along the main 'Bahnhof Strasse' either people watching or taking in some of the fantastic shops.

After a hard day of activity, there is no time for sleep, whilst this is not a night life hot spot, there are loads of bars, restaurants and places to dance in until the small hours, however, do watch your noise levels, after 10pm, the 'shhh' police will be out, so come home quietly!

Zermatt by Train

Zermatt is a great resort to access without having to fly - no need to worry about baggage charges or long check in times - head to Ashford or St Pancras and get the train via Paris to Geneva and then on....ideal - details coming soon - if you would like us to email you rates for 12/13 as soon as we have them - email us your details and requirements.
